Unity Community Center is once again joining with the historic Strand Movie Theatre in Delaware, Ohio to host a February Tuesday night Meaningful Movie Series on Social Justice. This year the movies have all centered around the topic of Unjustly Accused. Join us at the Strand for this impactful series, every Tuesday night in February.
The final movie on Feb. 24th will begin at 6 PM and will be followed by a panel discussion. This will be an incredible conversation around the justice system in the United States. Panelists include Delaware County Assistant Public Defender Barshaunda N. Robinson, Dr. Shari Stone, Professor of Philosophy at Ohio Wesleyan University and Cofounder/Director of Education at Parole Illinois, and Pierce Reed, Director of Policy and Engagement at the Ohio Innocence Project. They will be joined by Richard and Janette Horton. Richard was incarcerated just 6 months after marrying Janette. He spent 17 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. With the help of The Ohio Innocence Project, Richard was released in 2022.
The previous movies have been well attended and we have seen how supportive the community of Delaware is. Impactful introductions were given by local experts including, the Hon. David A. Hejmanowski, Delaware Chief of Police Adam Moore, and Assistant Public Defender Jordan A. Patton. We have also been joined by participants of the Ohio Innocence Project.
Come be part of this important community conversation. Doors open 30 minutes before the movie. Ticket costs are: general $8.50; students $7.00; Seniors 55+ and military discount $6.00; teachers $7.00. OWU students and seniors 55+ can purchase a special package for $10 including a small drink, popcorn and admission. Tickets can be purchased online at the Strand website.
