We are spending Labor Day celebrating the laborers around the county and enjoying the music from the 1960s. Yes, that is right. Join us for an outdoor viewing of the acclaimed Questlove documentary film “Summer of Soul” about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Before the movie, we will have music by Terry Hermsen that will connect the history of the Labor movement with music. We’ll also hear the poetry of Travis McClerking, a spoken word artist. And to kick the movie off, we will get a short history connection from Dr. Michael Flamm, history department from OWU and a specialist in the historical connections to the 1960s. Relax, come have a free hot dog (vegan dogs available), some popcorn, learn a little, and sit back or dance to the music coming to us from 1969. We will gather at 7:30 — bring a chair or blanket. The movie will start at dusk. We will be located behind the Community Gardens on South Liberty St., near the Ross Street Gazebo. Park at Unity Community Center or at the Community Gardens. Extra parking is available at Woodward Elementary School if needed.  The movie is PG-13 and remember that the next day (Tuesday) will be a school day for kids. We will have free raffles early, around 7:30 if kids want to come before the movie starts. A big thank you to Prof. Paul Dean and Ohio Wesleyan for making this opportunity available to the community.
