Once a month, members of the community get together to talk about a book they selected and read or listened to. The conversations are always enlightening, whether people liked the book or not. It has been amazing to hear what others thought of when reading the books. We have also been extraordinarily blessed to have some of the authors visit the book club or we have traveled to hear them speak at local events. What an honor to hear about their works.

Recent author visits have included Paisha Thomas who talked about her family’s history in her memoire “Looking for Innocence.” Paisha, a talented musician, also performed at our Kwanzaa celebration. One of our younger author’s to visit was Rosalyn Ransaw who spoke about the Delaware connections in her YA book “Smoke and Mirrors.” It was great hearing about the pieces of Delaware that made it into this mystery. Another Ohio native to visit was Robin Yocum, who spoke about his novel “The Essay” which is set in southern Ohio. A former crime reporter, Robin spoke about how he decided on some of the twists and turns in his story. Members of the book club also traveled to Ohio Wesleyan for a talk given by Clint Smith, after we had read his New York Times Best Seller, “How the Word Is Passed.” What a powerful presentation he gave.

Our next book is set to be “The Road Between Hearts,” a memoir by Leslie Powell Ahmadi. The author, Leslie, plans to visit book club to talk about her book and moving to post-revolutionary Iran in 1992. Stay tuned for more info. And if you want to join us, we meet every second Monday of the month from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Community Center. Come join us.
